Liverpool Refuses to Alter Offensive Approach Despite Current Struggles, Says Arne Slot
Liverpool's head coach has stated that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the team's slump and he will not abandon their offensive approach in quest for a solution. The head coach admitted that six unsuccessful results in seven games was below standard ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.
Growing Expectations During Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the expectations were high before his altered lineup suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or management structure following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.
"Our views align," stated the Liverpool boss, whose side will meet Real Madrid in the continental tournament and play against the Citizens in the domestic competition.
Squad Quality Remains Undoubted
Slot believes his team "possess an exceptional group if they are fully healthy and all ready for the schedule ahead". He noted that the summer investment in footballers like Florian Wirtz and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against the Birmingham club through injury, had left the club "in an excellent position for the short-term future and the distant prospects".
Integration Challenges
When pressed on why his team were having difficulty blending, he responded: "You don't really help me. 'What's causing this?' I offer insights and people say I'm offering alibis. I can identify five or six reasons why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."
- No matter if I could list numerous reasons
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- Unfortunately six out of seven
Backline Performance
Only the Clarets (21) have allowed more significant openings from open play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have conceded only two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the champions have been too open and maintains there is no basis to compromise forward-thinking approach for a defensive approach after ten matches without a clean sheet.
"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I find no basis to alter our approach entirely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he stated.
Specific Instances
"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we scarcely gave up a shot on target. In every match we have played so far we haven't allowed a lot of chances. Not at all. We do concede a somewhat more than last season but that stems from us being 1-0 down so you become more adventurous. But overall I don't feel that our challenge is that we give up too many openings. Our issue is we are unable to finish the openings we produce."
