Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
